The Lagos State Government has announced plans to execute the 68-kilometre Green Line rail project, connecting Marina to the Lekki Free Zone, in its entirety rather than dividing it into phases. This decision was disclosed by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, during a scoping workshop held on Wednesday to launch the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Resettlement Policy Framework processes for the project.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) unveiled the full alignment of the route via its official X handle, emphasizing the government’s commitment to completing the project as a whole, unlike past rail initiatives such as the Blue Line and Red Line, which were implemented in phases.
During the workshop, LAMATA outlined critical components of the ESIA process and revealed the 68-kilometre Green Line alignment, although specific details about the route remain under wraps. Commissioner Olumide urged property owners along the proposed corridor to regularize their building approval documentation, cautioning that failure to comply may result in penalties.
