The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for promptly releasing the Rivers State voters’ register ahead of the August 9 local government elections.
In a statement on Sunday, CUPP’s national spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, praised INEC for swiftly complying with the Supreme Court ruling, describing the move as a reinforcement of democratic principles.
“As an opposition coalition, we commend INEC for its timely and dutiful response to the Supreme Court’s judgment by releasing the Rivers State voters’ register in preparation for the upcoming local government elections,” Adebayo stated.
He also criticized political actors attempting to obstruct grassroots democracy, commending INEC for upholding its institutional integrity.
“Despite efforts by political agitators to undermine democracy, INEC has demonstrated its commitment to the rule of law. This decisive action is commendable, and we celebrate the commission for adhering to legal and constitutional mandates,” he added.
CUPP further called on the Attorney General to take decisive action against those attempting to disrupt the Supreme Court’s ruling through unlawful means.
