Manchester City Secure £59m Deal for Egyptian Striker Omar Marmoush

Manchester City have officially signed Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth 70 million euros (£59 million).

The 25-year-old striker has committed to a contract that runs until June 2029, with potential add-ons pushing the fee up by another £4 million. Marmoush has been in exceptional form this season, netting 15 goals in 17 Bundesliga appearances, making him the league’s second-highest scorer behind England captain Harry Kane, who has 16 goals for Bayern Munich.

Speaking about the move, Marmoush said, “Manchester City is one of the biggest clubs in the world over the past 10 years, so it was not a question. It’s a pleasure and an honour for me and my family to be representing Manchester City. It makes them happy; it makes me happy that my dreams are becoming a reality. The last two seasons have been great, but it is just the beginning for me.”

The versatile forward, who has experience playing as a striker, number 10, and winger, described his playing style: “On the pitch, I am fast, good on the ball, I try to see where the spaces are and exploit them. I’m dangerous. My main strength, I would say, is that I always want to win — that is from a character point of view.”

Manchester City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Marmoush’s attributes, calling his “outstanding pace and awareness” a key asset and highlighting his versatility as a valuable addition to the squad.

This signing adds to City’s busy January transfer window, which also saw the arrivals of 19-year-old Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for £30 million and Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens for £34 million.

Marmoush began his professional career at Wadi Degla in the Egyptian Premier League before moving to VfL Wolfsburg in 2020. He enjoyed loan spells at FC St Pauli and VfB Stuttgart before joining Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023. During his time at Frankfurt, Marmoush scored 37 goals and provided 20 assists in 67 appearances.
