Manchester United To Undergo Major Summer Overhaul

Manchester Unitedreportedly preparing for a huge clear-out this summer with at least 10 players leaving

Manchester United is reportedly gearing up for a major squad overhaul this summer, with at least 10 players expected to leave the club. Under new ownership and manager Ruben Amorim, the team is looking to rebuild following another disappointing season.

The Manchester Evening News has claimed that the club plans to sell Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho permanently. All three players are currently on loan at other clubs after falling out of favor at Old Trafford. The funds generated from these sales will be used to sign a proven goal scorer.

Chelsea holds an obligation to buy Sancho for £20-25 million, but it has been reported that they could pay United £5 million in compensation to avoid fulfilling this obligation. Veteran midfielder Casemiro will also be up for sale as the club aims to raise funds for new signings.

In addition, experienced players Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are expected to announce their retirements at the end of the season, while Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof will likely be released. With several attacking talents set to depart, United is believed to be in the market for a new winger.

Amorim recently acknowledged that some players are already aware their time at the club may be coming to an end. “Everybody understands that in football sometimes you stay, sometimes you have to move on,” he said. “If I know how to explain it, I will do so because I like to be clear. I’m quite honest with my players, and sometimes they know they have to move on at the end of the season.”

In a recent interview, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, part of United’s new ownership, criticized the club’s past spending on players, naming Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, Antony, Rasmus Hojlund, Lisandro Martinez, and Andre Onana as overpaid or not good enough. Ratcliffe stated, “This summer, we will ‘buy’ Antony, we’ll ‘buy’ Sancho, we’ll ‘buy’ Casemiro, we’ll ‘buy’ Martínez, we’ll ‘buy’ Hojlund, we’ll ‘buy’ Onana, and they’re all about £17 million each.”

He acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting, “These are all things from the past, whether we like it or not, we’ve inherited those things and have to sort them out. It takes time to move from the past to the future. We are in a period of transformation, but we have some great players in the squad, like Bruno Fernandes, who is a fantastic footballer.”
