A yet-to-be-confirmed number of people are feared dead after a truck carrying a 40-foot container lost control and crashed into a shuttle bus, tricycles, and pedestrians at Idemili Junction, near Oba, in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra on Tuesday evening, March 4.
Mrs. Margaret Onabe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, confirmed the tragic incident. Reports suggest that the trailer experienced brake failure while descending a hill, causing the driver to lose control and crash into several vehicles, including tricycles loading passengers at the junction and a shuttle bus.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as harrowing, with the truck’s container trapping people underneath, including bystanders who were waiting for transportation. The exact number of casualties is still being determined.
