New Visa Requirements Announced By U.S. Embassy In Nigeria

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has introduced updated requirements for visa applicants at its Abuja and Lagos offices, effective from Tuesday, April 22, 2025. This announcement comes amidst evolving bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States, following President Donald Trump’s recent tariff hike on Nigerian imports.

According to the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, applicants must present a DS-160 visa application form with a confirmation/barcode number (starting with “AA” and followed by “00”) that matches the one used to schedule their appointment online. Appointments must also be made at the location selected during the DS-160 form submission.

The mission emphasized the importance of ensuring that the barcode number on the DS-160 form aligns with the one used for booking the appointment. Applicants with mismatched barcodes will be denied entry to the Consular Section and will not be able to proceed with their visa interviews.

To avoid complications, the U.S. Mission urged applicants to double-check their information at least two weeks before their scheduled interview. If corrections are needed, applicants must log into their AVITS account at least ten days prior to their appointment to request a barcode correction.

In cases where an applicant is turned away due to unmatched barcodes, they will need to book a new appointment after resolving the issue. If the visa fee has expired, a new fee may be required. For further assistance, applicants are encouraged to contact the embassy directly.
