Nigeria Signs Major Gas Pipeline Deal to Boost Exports to Europe

Nigeria has signed a pipeline deal to transport billions of cubic meters of gas across 4,128 kilometers (2,565 miles) from West Africa through Niger and into Algeria.

Officials from Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria signed the agreement in Algiers, aiming to fast-track the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP). The project will channel gas through the Mediterranean’s Transmed pipeline to Italy or via LNG tankers for export.

The deal includes an updated feasibility study and confidentiality agreements among state energy firms. While initially estimated at $10 billion, the project gains urgency amid rising global gas demand and soaring prices after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
