Check Out Nigerian Artists Growth In Earnings As Spotify Reveals 2024 Increase

In 2024, Nigerian artists earned over N58 billion in royalties, more than double the amount they earned in 2023 and five times more than in 2022. The platform also reported a notable rise in the number of artists who earned at least N10 million in royalties, with this number doubling from 2023 and tripling compared to 2022.

The global popularity of Nigerian music is also evident, as Spotify noted that Nigerian artists were discovered by first-time listeners over one billion times. Over 1,900 Nigerian artists were featured on Spotify’s editorial playlists, marking a 33% increase from the previous year.

The majority of the royalties, according to Spotify, came from international listeners. The platform revealed that Nigerian music was streamed for over 1.1 million hours globally, and users created approximately 250 million playlists featuring Nigerian artists.

Spotify’s report also highlighted the increasing export growth of Nigerian music, with a 49% rise in the past three years. Locally, consumption of Nigerian content grew by 206% year-over-year, with a staggering 782% increase over the past three years.

The streaming platform attributes this financial success to Nigeria’s growing international recognition, strategic playlist placements, and a marked rise in music exports, reinforcing Nigeria’s status as a global music powerhouse.

Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Spotify’s Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, expressed pride in these accomplishments: “We remain committed to empowering Nigerian artists and ensuring transparency. The impressive growth of Nigerian music, both locally and internationally, reflects the incredible talent and creativity coming out of Nigeria, and we are excited to continue supporting its rise.”
