Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo remains confident that Nigerian defender Ola Aina will commit to a new contract at the City Ground, despite strong interest from Manchester City, who have identified the 27-year-old as a top target this January.
Aina joined Forest as a free agent in the summer of 2023, with the club activating a one-year extension last season. With six months remaining on his current deal, talks of a renewal are ongoing.
Santo, addressing the situation during a press conference on Friday, January 3, expressed optimism:
“I think so, he will sign a new deal. I think things are going well, and the players are working very good.”
Aina has been pivotal for the Tricky Trees this season, featuring in 19 league games and contributing two goals from his position at full-back. Santo also hinted at progress in negotiations to secure striker Chris Wood’s future at the club.
