The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully intercepted 1,571 liters of petroleum products being illegally transported in jerrycans to banditry-prone areas.
Speaking on behalf of the State Commandant, Sani Mustapha, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Umar Muhammad, informed journalists that four suspects were arrested in connection with the crime across two separate locations. Among those apprehended were two filling station attendants and two buyers, who were caught in the Birnin Magaji and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state.
Muhammad revealed that the suspects had not only been transporting fuel from unauthorized locations but had also violated the Executive Order prohibiting the sale of petroleum products in jerrycans within Zamfara State. “Today, we present to you four suspects who have been arrested for illegally dealing in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in large quantities, violating both the National and State Executive Orders that prohibit fuel sales in jerrycans,” he stated.
Two of the suspects were apprehended in Birnin Magaji with 1,296 liters of fuel, while the other two were arrested in Tsafe with 275 liters of the product.
The NSCDC assured the public that investigations are ongoing and reiterated its commitment to enforcing the law, especially in curbing illegal fuel diversion and activities that could contribute to insecurity in the state
