The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, declared on Thursday that his ancestors brought Governor Monday Okpebholo to restore the lost glory of Edo State.
Oba Ewuare made this statement during a solidarity visit by Governor Okpebholo to his palace in Benin following his victory at the Edo Governorship Election Tribunal, which upheld his election as governor.
The Oba hailed the governor as a true son of the land and called on his ancestors to bless him and his family for resisting the efforts of wrongdoers who sought to destroy the state.
In a rare gesture, the Oba rose from his seat and helped Okpebholo to his feet, foreseeing that the governor’s administration would bring more development to the state.
Speaking in Edo language, Oba Ewuare said, “It shall be well with you, your wife, and your children. Your journey to Edo has been approved by our ancestors. They brought you to restore the lost glory of Edo State, which evil forces sought to ruin. We have been praying for you, and we will continue to pray that you resist the forces of evil and protect Edo.”
In response, Governor Okpebholo expressed his gratitude to Oba Ewuare for his support and prayers for both him and the people of Edo State. He described his victory at the tribunal as a historic one, calling it the “sweetest judgment ever,” especially since the three-member panel unanimously agreed in his favor.
“This is the first time we’ve seen a judgment where all the judges agreed that Monday Okpebholo won the election,” the governor remarked.
