Oba Of Benin Appoints New District Head After Suspending Dukes

        EWUARE II

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has appointed Chief Emmanuel Iyase as the new Okao Eguae (Palace District Head) for the Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms in Edo State, following the suspension of the Enigie (Dukes) of these areas. Iyase takes over from Prince Owen Jackson Akenzua (Ologbo) and Chief D. E. Igiehon (Ehor), who, along with 69 other Dukes, were suspended for allegedly rebelling against the Benin monarchy.

As the first Okao Eguae directly appointed by the Benin Palace, Iyase will oversee traditional leadership in the two Dukedoms, working closely with elders and other key figures under the Oba’s authority. His responsibilities include managing the territories once governed by the suspended Dukes of Ologbo and Ehor, who are accused of opposing the Benin monarchy.

During the Ekpomwen-abor ceremony, a traditional event marking the conferment of Chieftaincy titles at the Ugha Ozolua area of the Oba Palace in Benin City, Oba Ewuare II addressed the newly appointed Okao. The Oba urged Iyase to avoid any unethical practices that could undermine the authority of the monarchy or tarnish the reputation of the Dukedoms. He also emphasized the importance of working harmoniously with the Edionwere, elders in the Dukedoms, and top functionaries appointed by the Benin monarch.

Iyase, accompanied by his family and well-wishers at the event, expressed his gratitude to Oba Ewuare and pledged to uphold good conduct for the well-being and development of the Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms.
