The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a police officer accused of stabbing a civilian in Ise-Ekiti, reportedly over a disagreement involving the officer’s girlfriend and the victim’s son.
The incident gained public attention after a viral video surfaced, showing the victim’s daughter alleging that her father was attacked in their home. According to her, a quarrel between her younger brother and a female classmate led the girl to report the matter to her boyfriend, a police orderly to a local chairman. This allegedly prompted two officers to confront the family, claiming they were there to make an arrest.
In a statement on Friday, police spokesperson SP Abutu Sunday confirmed the officer has been taken into custody. He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has assigned the Deputy Commissioner of the Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and ensure a thorough investigation.
“The Ekiti State Police Command has noticed a viral video where a girl alleged that her father was stabbed by a policeman due to an argument between her brother and the officer’s girlfriend,” the statement read. “The Commissioner of Police has directed the DC CID to handle the case, and the officer involved is now in custody.”
The command urged the public and the victim’s family to remain calm, assuring that justice will be served.
