World heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has announced his intention to compete in two more fights before retiring from boxing.
The 38-year-old Ukrainian, who defeated Britain’s Tyson Fury last May to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion in nearly 25 years, revealed his retirement plans on Wednesday. Usyk remains undefeated and still holds the WBC, WBA, and WBO titles despite vacating the IBF belt.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Usyk stated, “I think two years, one and a half (left in boxing). I feel great myself. I feel I have two fights to prepare for, not more. Just two.”
One of those fights will be against the winner of the upcoming Daniel Dubois vs. Joseph Parker bout. “I will fight (who wins) Joseph Parker, Daniel Dubois, no problem,” he added.
Usyk’s decision signals the final chapter of a remarkable career that has seen him dominate the heavyweight division and cement his place in boxing history.
