The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued a query to one of its officers following allegations of assaulting a student at Victory College in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State. The NSCDC confirmed this development in a statement on March 5, 2025, after the officer was summoned to Akure for questioning.
Femi-Daniels Aidamenbor, the Command’s spokesperson, stated that while the officer was acting within the scope of his duties, the manner in which he handled the situation was inappropriate. He emphasized that even in cases of serious punishment, it should never be physical in the way it was administered to the student.
Earlier, Ondo-based activist Ogbeni OB Sugar had reported the incident on Facebook, claiming that the 13-year-old student was flogged by the NSCDC officer on the instruction of the school principal. The incident occurred after the boy accidentally injured a classmate with a plastic water bottle. The boy was later released on bail for N3,000, but the principal allegedly demanded an additional N10,000 from the boy’s mother, citing it was for government purposes.
