PDP assistant women leader resigns from party

Margaret Ekpeyong Okon, the Assistant State Woman Leader for the South of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from the party, adding to the growing political shifts within Cross River State.

Her resignation comes just two days after Emana Amawhe, the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2024 elections, also stepped down.

In a letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of Edem Odo Ward in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Okon expressed gratitude for the opportunities she had while serving the party. She reflected on her journey, from being a ward executive member to a councillor, and more recently, as a member of the state executive council and Assistant State Woman Leader for the South.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the party in various roles, from Ward Exco member to Councillor, and most recently as a member of the State Executive Council/Assistant State Woman Leader, South. These experiences have been invaluable, and I deeply appreciate the trust and support I received throughout my journey,” she wrote.

Okon further mentioned that the insights she gained during her time in the PDP would guide her future endeavors, reaffirming her commitment to serving her community and advocating for progress.

Her departure, following Amawhe’s exit, represents another significant shift in the state’s political scene as internal realignments within the PDP continue.
