Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has donated ₦10 million to Tansian College of Nursing in Oba, Anambra State, emphasizing the importance of education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation for Nigeria’s development. Obi, who made the donation during his visit on Saturday, highlighted education as a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and called on Nigerian leaders to prioritize these key sectors.

The former governor of Anambra State commended Tansian University for its commitment to training healthcare professionals and stressed that strengthening the healthcare sector begins with providing institutions with the necessary resources to produce skilled professionals.

Addressing the students, Obi encouraged them to remain focused, emphasizing that a well-educated population is essential for a stable and prosperous society. The Vice-Chancellor of Tansian University, Prof. Eugene Nwadialor, expressed deep appreciation for Obi’s ongoing support. He praised Obi for not only addressing the immediate needs of the university but also investing in the future of the next generation.

During the event, Nwadialor raised the issue of 38 nursing students left stranded after the death of Monsignor Johnbosco Akam, their scholarship benefactor, and appealed for Obi’s intervention to help them continue their studies. The Vice-Chancellor also invited Obi to be the Special Guest of Honour at the university’s convocation ceremony scheduled for March 29, 2025.

The event, attended by staff, students, and dignitaries, saw praise for Obi’s contributions to educational institutions across Nigeria, recognizing the positive impact of his philanthropy on the lives of many young people. Obi was accompanied by his former commissioners, including Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Prof. Patrick Obi, and Ndubisi Menakaya.
