Peter Obi Criticizes Tinubu’s Economic Approach, Highlights Worsening Economic Conditions

Economic reforms: Peter Obi sarcastically praises President Tinubu for

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu for fulfilling his promise to continue former President Muhammadu Buhari’s policies. During a visit to Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi on March 13, Obi highlighted the current administration’s economic performance, emphasizing the need for Nigeria to prioritize competence and capacity over ethnic and religious politics.

Obi pointed out the stark rise in prices, from the dollar’s rate increasing from N400 to N1,500, to the cost of rice and fuel more than doubling. He sarcastically remarked, “So, he has done exactly as he promised.”

The former presidential candidate also compared Nigeria’s economy to Indonesia’s, which saw impressive growth in the past decade, contrasting it with Nigeria’s decline in GDP and per capita income.

Obi called for a focus on reviving Nigeria’s industries, investing in education and healthcare, and embracing productive governance. He also stressed the importance of unity, stating that Nigeria should prioritize competence, not tribalism or religion, in its future leadership.
