The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association (PETROAN) has confirmed that its members have resumed loading dual-purpose kerosene, automotive gas oil, and premium motor spirits at the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries.
This comes after reports of shutdowns at both refineries in December 2024, with Port Harcourt undergoing rehabilitation and Warri restarting operations in late December. However, PETROAN spokesperson Joseph Obele provided an update, revealing that petroleum products are now being supplied to retailers from both refineries. The Port Harcourt refinery is already providing petrol, diesel, and kerosene, while Warri is supplying only diesel and kerosene.
The revival of these refineries, along with the operational Dangote Refinery, has sparked speculation that increased competition could lead to a reduction in retail fuel prices. Obele emphasized that the revitalization efforts have also led to the elimination of adulterated diesel and kerosene from the market, offering benefits to consumers.
