Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, paid a condolence visit to Katsina State Governor Mallam Dikko Radda following the death of his mother, Hajiya Safara’u Barebari, who passed away at the age of 93.
The visit was confirmed in a statement from Radda’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, which was shared with the press on Tuesday in Katsina. Obi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Governor and his family.
Obi said, “We are here this morning to offer our deepest condolences to you and your family on the passing of your beloved mother.” He explained that he waited until after the holiday season to visit, allowing for a time of quiet reflection. “We gather today not to question the will of Almighty Allah, as we are all under His divine mercy. When He calls us home, we must answer,” he added.
Obi also prayed for the deceased, saying, “May God Almighty, in His infinite mercy, forgive her sins, grant her eternal rest, and give you, your family, and the people of Katsina the strength to bear this great loss.”
Similarly, Ahmed Umar, the North West Zonal Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, also visited Katsina on Tuesday to express his condolences. “I stand before you today to offer my deepest condolences to His Excellency the Governor, his family, and the people of Katsina State on the passing of his revered mother, who was a mother to us all. The loss of a mother creates an irreplaceable void, a test of faith that shakes us deeply. May Allah grant His Excellency, the family, and all mourners the strength to endure this grief with patience and grace,” Umar said. He also prayed for peace, unity, and hope for Katsina State and the nation.
In response, Deputy Governor Faruk Jobe, speaking on behalf of the Governor, thanked all visitors for their support. “Your presence to condole with His Excellency the Governor, the State Government, and the people of Katsina is deeply appreciated,” Jobe said. “On behalf of the Governor’s family, the State Government, and the people of Katsina, we sincerely thank you for your kindness.”
Obi was accompanied by former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Nenadi Usman, and Labour Party National Spokesperson, Alhaji Yunusa Tanko.
