Police detain 12 over alleged attack on mosque in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has detained 12 suspects following an alleged attack on worshippers during Tahajjud prayers (night prayers) on March 21, 2025.

In a statement on Friday, the Command’s Spokesman, Mansir Hassan, confirmed that the attack occurred around 2:00 a.m., when a group of armed hoodlums reportedly mobilized from several areas—Malalin Gabas, Tudun Wada, Rafin Guza, and Unguwar Baduko—to assault worshippers at Layin Bilya, Makwa Road, Rigasain in Kaduna.

Upon receiving a distress call from a concerned citizen, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), along with the Commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), responded to the scene. However, before their arrival, the attackers had stabbed one Usman Mohammad, 23, with a sharp knife.

Mohammad was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was confirmed dead by a doctor.

Following the attack, 12 suspects were arrested, and several weapons were recovered. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to ensure justice is served.

In response, the police have increased security around key areas in the state, particularly mosques where such prayers are held. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The police also warned criminals to desist from such activities, stating that those caught will face the full force of the law.
