Police neutralise two kidnap suspects in Kwara

Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command, in a joint operation with vigilantes and local hunters, have neutralised two kidnap suspects and arrested key individuals in a swift search-and-rescue operation in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

During the operation, an abducted victim was rescued, and a firearm was recovered, according to a statement by the spokesperson of the police command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Monday.

She said: “On 1st March 2025, at about 07:06 hours, the command received an intelligence report on the abduction of Sule Saidu, male, of Ahuro Fulani Camp, which occurred on 28th February 2025, at about 22:00 hours, by five armed men.

“A joint security team, including police detectives, hunters, and vigilantes, launched a rescue operation. The gang was intercepted along the Babanla/Oreke axis in Ifelodun Local Government Area, where they engaged operatives in a gun duel.”

The police spokesperson disclosed: “One abductor was neutralised, while two others, Ibrahim Shehu, 40, and Mohammad Lawal, 25, were arrested. The remaining two escaped with gunshot wounds.

“One AK-47 rifle and charms were recovered. The injured suspects, who were later apprehended, succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital.”

The police command commended the bravery and swift response of its officers, as well as the dedication of the local hunters and vigilante group, acknowledging their crucial role in the operation. It added that their collective efforts continue to enhance security and ensure the safety of residents.

According to the command, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover more firearms.

Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
