The Lagos State Police Command has announced the deployment of a significant number of officers and tactical teams across the state to ensure a safe, peaceful, and crime-free Easter celebration.
In a statement issued Friday by spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh ordered the immediate deployment of conventional officers, elite strike teams, and specialized units. These include the Police Mobile Force, Rapid Response Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squad, K9 units, mounted patrols, and other operational detachments.
The police said these units are stationed at strategic points across Lagos, particularly in known hotspots and flashpoints, to deter criminal activity, reassure the public, and ensure smooth Easter festivities.
Special focus is being placed on churches, recreational centres, event venues, and other public gathering spots. These areas will be “properly policed,” according to the statement.
To support operations, officers are equipped with logistics such as patrol vehicles and armoured carriers. The initiative is part of a broader plan to prevent security breaches and maintain public order throughout the holiday period.
Commissioner Jimoh emphasized collaboration with other security agencies, including the military, paramilitary forces, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. He instructed officers to remain professional, courteous, and respectful of citizens’ rights while remaining firm in law enforcement.
Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest police station. Reports of police misconduct should be directed to the Lagos Command Complaint Response Unit.
Jimoh also urged parents to advise their children and wards against unruly behaviour during the celebrations.
Extending Easter wishes, he said, “On behalf of all officers and personnel of the Command, we join Christian faithful in celebrating this season. We wish everyone peace, love, and joy. Happy Easter.”
