The Kogi State Police Command has urged Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to cancel her planned Sallah visit to the Central Senatorial District of Kogi State.
This call was made by the State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya.
The statement explained that the police chief’s request follows the state government’s recent ban on political rallies, which was announced on Monday, March 31.
The statement reads:
“Based on intelligence reports regarding security threats in Kogi State, and in light of the state government’s ban on all rallies and processions, the Nigeria Police Force, Kogi State Command, has called for the cancellation of the planned rally in Okene to ensure the peace of the state is maintained.
This request is necessary due to intelligence suggesting that some individuals may attempt to hijack the event and disrupt the peace. The Police Command cannot risk compromising the current peace in the state.
Given the security threats associated with the event, the Kogi State Police Command strongly advises the organizers to cancel the rally to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order. The Command will not hesitate to take full legal action against anyone causing a disturbance in the state.
Despite the state government’s ban on political gatherings, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has expressed her intention to go ahead with her ‘homecoming,’ emphasizing that her visit is solely for the purpose of celebrating Eid al-Fitr with her constituents.”
