The Premier League has confirmed two transfer windows this summer due to “exceptional” circumstances surrounding the FIFA Club World Cup.
The first window will open earlier than usual, from Sunday, June 1, to Tuesday, June 10. It will then close temporarily before reopening on Monday, June 16. The second window will follow the usual schedule, closing on Monday, September 1.
This decision comes after FIFA’s announcement in October of an interim transfer window for clubs participating in the Club World Cup, allowing teams like Chelsea and Manchester City to strengthen their squads and finalize contract extensions before the tournament begins in the United States on June 14.
The move follows opposition from Premier League clubs who were concerned about being unable to make transfers during the Club World Cup period, arguing for an earlier domestic window to avoid a competitive disadvantage. After a Premier League meeting on Thursday, the league confirmed the new transfer window dates, stating: “The window will open early, from Sunday, June 1, to Tuesday, June 10, due to an exceptional registration period related to the FIFA Club World Cup. It will then reopen on Monday, June 16, and close on Monday, September 1.”
Last summer, the transfer window ran from June 14 to August 30.
