President Tinubu Appoints Board Chairman of Nigerian Independent System Operator

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Adesegun Olugbade as the board chairman and Abdu Bello as Managing Director of the newly established Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO). The announcement was made on Wednesday by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu also approved the appointment of four executive directors: Nafisatu Ali (Systems Operation), Shehu Abba-Aliyu (Systems Planning), Dr. Edmund Eje (Market Operations), and Mr. Babajide Ibironke (Finance and Corporate Services). Additionally, non-executive board members include representatives from the power sector, including Lamu Audu (Generation), Mrs. Folake Soetan (Distribution), and Mr. Tajudeen Giwa-Osagie (Market Expert).

The appointments align with the Electricity Act of 2023, which mandates the unbundling of the Transmission Company of Nigeria. The National Council on Privatisation will finalize the recruitment process, ensuring compliance with the regulatory framework governing NISO’s establishment.
