President Tinubu Mourns Ibadan Funfair Tragedy, Orders Investigation

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident at the Children’s Funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, where 35 children lost their lives, and many others sustained injuries.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Oyo State, as well as to the grieving families affected by the loss.

President Tinubu has directed authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the tragedy to uncover its causes. He stressed the need to determine whether negligence or intentional misconduct by the organisers played a role, underscoring the importance of transparency and accountability in the process.

He also urged the Oyo State Government to implement stringent measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. Among these, he highlighted the necessity for regular safety audits, strict enforcement of regulations, and a comprehensive review of safety protocols for public events.

Tinubu further called on event organisers to prioritise the well-being of attendees, particularly children, stating: “Our children’s safety must always come first. No event is worth compromising their lives.”
