US President Donald Trump has revealed that he initiated secret nuclear deal talks with Iran, disclosing on Fox Business on Friday, March 7, that he sent a letter to Iranian leadership the day before, aiming to restart negotiations. Trump expressed his hope that Iran would engage in talks, emphasizing the potential benefits for the country. “The alternative is we have to do something, because you can’t let another nuclear weapon,” Trump stated.
The letter, addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has yet to receive a public response. Trump reiterated his preference for a diplomatic solution, stating, “There are two ways Iran can be handled: militarily, or you make a deal.”
Trump had previously pulled the US out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in 2018. Despite escalating tensions, including Trump’s “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran and threats of retaliation, he expressed his desire for a peaceful resolution to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
In contrast, Khamenei dismissed the possibility of reopening nuclear talks, criticizing the US’s withdrawal from the agreement and asserting that negotiating with America would not resolve Iran’s issues.
