A group, Sustainance of Igbo Culture and Tradition (IDTL), has called for investigation and prosecution of masterminds of the quit notice order to Ndigbo over the recent hunger protests.
A press statement issued by leader of the group, Raphael Eze, stated that it amounted to witch-hunting, for anyone to issue such order even when Igbo were not participants in the protests.
Eze also demanded investigation of the alleged detention of His Royal Highness (HRH) Nwajiagu, Eze Ndigbo in Lagos during the protest.
“Therefore, having followed this ugly challenges arising from the protest which has fixed Nigerians, essentially Ndigbo at the receiving end, needs proactive measures to by the appropriate authorities”.
“It is on this note that IDTL demand the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokum, to rise to the occasion by protecting the lives and properties of Ndigbo who are now victims of what they did not bargain for in some States of the federation.
“Furthermore, IDTL demands that the Inspector General of Police Police should immediately arrest and persecute those or actors who also issued unlawful quit notice to Ndigbo in the West and as well investigate the alleged detention of HRH Nwajiagu, Eze- Ndigbo in Lagos, including those involved in the destruction and looting of properties in the ongoing protest.
The leader of IDTL frowned at the dehumanizing and attacks meted on Igbo people in the just concluded ‘EndBad Governance Protest.
He commended Governors of the South east, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in their leadership role and sensitization for youths in region to shun the protest.
“So we commend the five governors of the South east, traditional rulers, serving senators and members of house of Representatives, former/ present ministers, former Secretary to the federal government, Mr. Pius Anyim, local government chairmen in the region including the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, etc for their steadfastness, commitment and good leadership purpose for Igbo youths to shun the ongoing ‘EndBad Governance protest.
“This is the first time since the civil war that Igbo spoke with one voice and kept to it. On this note, IDTL therefore appreciate the roles stakeholders of Igbo extration played towards this goal and pled for continuity of this noble gesture which has strengthened our existence and unite us the more.”
