The Onipanu Divisional Headquarters of the Ogun State Police Command has arrested 30-year-old ride-share driver Olayemi Yusuf for the alleged abduction of a female passenger. The suspect, who was also assaulted by an angry mob, is currently in police custody as an investigation is underway.

Confirming the incident, CSP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the command, stated that on March 24, 2025, at around 3:00 PM, officers were alerted to a suspicious vehicle on Ilogbo Road, Ojuore, Ogun State. A quick police response led to the rescue of the victim, Coutroupis Peace, a 22-year-old woman from Lagos.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had booked a ride from Lekki, Lagos, to Off Freedom Way, Lekki. During the journey, the driver claimed his navigation system had malfunctioned and deviated from the planned route. He then overpowered the victim, restraining her hands with two plastic tire clips.

Upon reaching Omowo Filling Station along Ilogbo Road, Ota, the victim raised an alarm, attracting the attention of passersby. They intervened and attacked the suspect before police officers arrived at the scene.

Both the victim and the suspect were taken to the police station, where the suspect received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the mob attack. CSP Odutola emphasized that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, urges the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspicious activities to the authorities for proper investigation and legal action.
