Tony Okocha, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has demanded that Governor Siminalayi Fubara resign within 48 hours or face impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, March 10, at his private residence in Port Harcourt, Okocha accused Fubara of insulting President Bola Tinubu while attempting to offer a political solution to the crisis in the state.
“As a political party, we are advising the governor to either resign honourably or be impeached. This is the position of the APC. He has disrespected Mr. President, and we cannot tolerate that,” Okocha said.
He further stated that the evidence against Fubara was clear, with the Supreme Court providing additional proof. Okocha added that the House of Assembly no longer needed to set up a committee to investigate the governor.
“48 hours is too much to give him. He should resign immediately,” Okocha concluded.
This call for Fubara’s resignation follows a Supreme Court ruling that reinstated 26 lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the APC.
