The Rivers State Government has stated that it is too early to comment on President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state. Earlier this evening, President Tinubu declared the emergency following the ongoing conflict between the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
In his nationwide address, President Tinubu announced the suspension of Governor Fubara, his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, and all members of the State House of Assembly for a period of six months.
When reached for comment after the president’s announcement, Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, stated that it was too soon for the government to make a statement.
“The president has made a declaration, and what do you think we can say? I believe it’s too early to comment on it,” he said.
