The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed as “false” reports that its officers fired on protesters or used tear gas to disperse them on Monday, April 7, 2025, near Abali Park and the Federal Secretariat Complex on Aba Road.
In a statement, Police Spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko called the claims unfounded. She explained that when the police received intelligence about a protest, officers were promptly deployed to the area. “Upon arrival, a group of miscreants was found engaging in criminal activities, such as stealing mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting members of the public. Our officers responded quickly and dispersed them,” she said.
Iringe-Koko added that the reports were likely fabricated by troublemakers trying to stir up public anxiety and create unnecessary tension. “We urge the public to disregard these baseless claims and remain confident in their safety,” she stated.
The spokesperson condemned the spread of misinformation and warned those responsible for circulating false stories. “Spreading unverified and misleading information is a serious threat to public peace and security. We remain committed to protecting lives and property across Rivers State in a professional, lawful, and community-oriented way,” she said. She also encouraged the public to contact the police through official lines to report any suspicious activities.
