The Rivers State Government has announced that it will not comply with the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly, demanding that Governor Siminalayi Fubara re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
On Monday, the House of Assembly had directed Governor Fubara to present the bill within 48 hours following the Supreme Court ruling. The Assembly stated it had sent an official letter to the state government regarding this demand.
However, in a letter dated March 5, addressed to the Right Honourable Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the state government clarified that it had not received any such communication. The letter, signed by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Tammy Danagogo, noted that the only information they had seen was a letter circulating on social media. As of March 4, 2025, the offices of the governor, deputy governor, and the state accountant-general had not received the letter.
The state government emphasized that in his March 2 broadcast, Governor Fubara had expressed his commitment to upholding the rule of law, despite personal opinions on the Supreme Court judgment. The government further assured that it is in contact with its legal team, awaiting the certified true copy of the Supreme Court’s judgment. Once received, Governor Fubara will ensure its full implementation in the best interest of the people of Rivers State.
