Severe flood renders 9 Yobe LGs inaccessible

Nine local government areas located in Northern part of Yobe State have been cut-off from Damaturu, the state capital, following torrential rain that resulted in cutting off roads linking the areas with the capital.

According to reports, the affected LGAs are: Bursari, Geidam, Yunusari, Bade and Yusufari.

Others are: Jakusko, Karasuwa, Nguru and Machina.

The two main routes linking the northern flank of the state, around Jumbam in Tarmuwa local government area, as well as around Tarajim village in Nangere local government area were cut off due to severe flooding.

The ugly development is forcing residents and motorists to take longer alternative routes to access the State capital.

The State Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana has visited one of the cut-off roads in Jumbam village, Tarmuwa local government, for on-the-spot assessment.

He sympathised with the community and directed the Ministry of Works to construct temporary bridge to facilitate movement of goods, people and services.

He also directed the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to the victims in the affected areas.
