Tesla’s Sales in Germany Plummet Amid CEO Musk’s Support for Far-Right Party

Tesla sales fall in Germany after Elon Musk backed far right political party

Tesla’s sales in Germany have suffered a sharp decline, with official data revealing a 76% drop in registrations last month. Only 1,429 Tesla vehicles were registered in February, marking a dramatic contrast to the same period last year, as reported by the KBA federal transport authority. This follows a 60% drop in January, bringing the company’s total sales down by 70% in the first two months of 2025.

The decline comes in the wake of CEO Elon Musk’s controversial endorsement of the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) during the country’s elections. Musk’s support, including a statement on social media claiming that only the AfD could “save Germany,” coincided with the party’s historic 21% vote share in the February 23 national elections. Despite this, the AfD remains isolated in Germany’s parliament due to its extreme political views.

While Tesla faces a tough period, the broader electric vehicle market in Germany is seeing recovery, with registrations of battery-powered cars increasing by 31% in February, despite a general decline in the automotive market.
