At least three people were injured when an undetonated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated in Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State. The explosion occurred on Saturday in the Ngomari Community, Buni Yadi, the LGA’s headquarters.

A reliable local source told Daily Trust that the incident unfolded when a 22-year-old, while gathering firewood in the bush, discovered live ammunition and four AK47 rounds. Driven by curiosity, the young man attempted to open the ammunition and struck it with a hammer, which caused the explosion. The young man and two others sustained varying degrees of injury.

Malam Isyaku Dahiru, Secretary of the Local Metal Fabricators Association in Gujba, confirmed the incident and stated that the injured victims were rushed to the Yobe State Specialist Hospital in Buni Yadi for emergency treatment.

The region has been plagued by attacks from Boko Haram, who have used IEDs in their assaults on local communities.
