Trump Hints At Third Term In Office

President Donald Trump has once again hinted at the possibility of seeking a third term in office, despite the constitutional two-term limit.

During a phone interview with NBC News on Sunday, Trump stated, “I’m not joking,” when questioned about his previous remarks on the matter, adding that there are “methods” to make it happen.

Trump’s latest comments, made both in a morning call and later aboard Air Force One, are among his most definitive yet regarding potential plans to extend his time in office. While he did not elaborate on the legal mechanisms he might pursue, he acknowledged receiving proposals on how it could be achieved.

“We have almost four years to go and that’s a long time but despite that so many people are saying you’ve got to run again. They love the job we’re doing.”

Trump said Sunday aboard the presidential jet, apparently referring to his political allies and supporters. He appeared to wave off a reporter’s question about whether he is planning not to leave office on January 20, 2029, the next Inauguration Day, saying: “I’m not looking at that, but I’ll tell you, I have had more people ask me to have a third term,” he said.

When asked whether a scenario involving Vice President JD Vance running for office and later stepping down to allow Trump’s return was a possibility, Trump confirmed it as “one” option but declined to provide further details.

Currently, amending the U.S. Constitution to permit a third term would require significant legislative support, including a two-thirds majority in both chambers of Congress or approval from two-thirds of state legislatures an unlikely scenario given the current political landscape.

Despite these hurdles, Trump remains confident in his influence, stating that many supporters have urged him to continue his leadership beyond his current term.
