Trump To Restrict Travel From 43 Countries To The US

The Trump administration is reportedly considering new travel restrictions for citizens from 43 countries as part of an ongoing immigration crackdown that started when President Trump began his second term in January. According to The New York Times, the proposed travel bans are divided into three categories.

The “red list” includes 11 countries—Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. Citizens from these countries would face a complete travel ban to the U.S.

The “orange list” contains 10 countries where travel would be restricted, but not entirely blocked. Affluent business travelers could still enter, but individuals applying for immigrant or tourist visas would be denied entry. The countries on this list are Belarus, Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Turkmenistan.

The largest category, the “yellow list,” includes 22 countries. These nations would be given 60 days to address specific issues; failure to comply could result in more severe restrictions. Countries on this list include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.

An anonymous U.S. official warned that the list is not final and could undergo changes before it is approved by the Trump administration or Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
