Two Children Killed, 20 Injured In Gombe Sallah Stampede

               Gombe State

The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed that two children died following a stampede at the Gombe main Eid Ground. DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Command’s spokesperson, provided details in a statement on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. at the exit gate of the Eid Ground, just after the Eid prayers. Abdullahi explained that the stampede was triggered by limited exit access, causing a large crowd, mostly women and children, to rush out. The intense heat worsened the situation, leading to the tragic event.

A total of 22 people were affected, and they were promptly taken to hospitals for treatment. Sadly, a four-year-old boy and a six-month-old baby girl were declared dead by doctors while receiving medical care.

The police extended their condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a swift recovery. They also advised Eid Ground organizers to ensure all entrance and exit gates are kept open for smooth movement, especially after prayers.

In response, Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and those affected. He ordered a thorough investigation into the stampede to prevent future incidents. The governor assured that the state government would cover all medical expenses for the injured victims to support their recovery.
