U.S. universities urge international students to return before potential visa restrictions under Trump administration.

As Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House, U.S. universities are advising international students, including Nigerians, to take precautions against potential immigration policy changes that could affect their status.

During Trump’s first term, his administration imposed a travel ban on multiple countries, which created re-entry challenges for many international students. Universities like UC Berkeley and Cornell have issued warnings, urging students to return to the U.S. before January 20, ahead of the inauguration.

“The ban is likely to include countries targeted in the first Trump administration,” Cornell University’s Office of Global Learning stated, referencing nations such as Iran, Libya, Nigeria, and Yemen. Similarly, Columbia University advised its international students to return early to avoid possible travel disruptions.

Trump’s first presidency saw strict immigration measures, including a Muslim ban and a pledge to revoke visas of students he labeled as “anti-American.” His rhetoric and policies continue to raise concerns among international students amid heightened political tension.
