UK Commends Zulum, Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Stabilization Support

The United Kingdom has praised Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, for his dedication to combating insurgency and restoring peace in the state.

British Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Atkinson, made the commendation on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Governor in Maiduguri.

“On behalf of the British Government, I acknowledge the efforts of His Excellency, the Governor, in addressing insurgency and supporting the people of Borno State, particularly in securing a prosperous future for those displaced by conflict,” Atkinson stated.

She further reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to fostering peace, stability, and sustainable solutions, particularly through the ongoing regional stabilization facility.

In response, the Secretary to the Borno State Government, who received the Deputy High Commissioner on behalf of Governor Zulum, expressed gratitude to the UK Government for its continuous partnership and support.

“With the UK Government, we have several strong partnerships. His Excellency deeply appreciates these collaborations and has specifically instructed me to convey his heartfelt gratitude,” he said.

The meeting was attended by key government officials, including the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Emet Kois; Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe; Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Mustapha Gubio; Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Aliyu Mohammed Bamanga; and Commissioner for Inter-Governmental and Special Duties, Tukur Shani.

Also present were the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Abdullahi Ishaq; Senior Technical Assistant (Political) to the Governor, Alhaji Tahiru Shettima; Permanent Secretary for Political and Cabinet Affairs, Danjuma Ali; and Executive Secretary of the Borno State Agency for Coordination of Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Response (BOACSDHR), Babakura Mamman Gadai.
