The United Kingdom has announced plans to implement new passport application fees starting April 10, 2025. According to a statement from the UK Home Office on Thursday, the proposed fee increases—pending parliamentary approval—aim to move toward a self-sustaining system, reducing dependence on taxpayer funding.
Under the new structure, the fee for a standard online application within the UK will rise from £88.50 to £94.50 for adults and from £57.50 to £61.50 for children. Postal applications will also see an increase, with adult fees rising from £100 to £107 and child fees from £69 to £74.
For premium (one-day) services, the fee will increase from £207.50 to £222 for adults and from £176.50 to £189 for children. Overseas applicants will also face higher charges, with standard online applications rising from £101 to £108 for adults and from £65.50 to £70 for children.
The UK government emphasized that passport fees contribute to application processing, consular support overseas, and border control but do not generate profit. The Home Office urged applicants to submit their applications well in advance of travel to avoid delays, noting that in 2024, 99.7% of standard applications within the UK were processed within three weeks.
