Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract with Liverpool FC, extending his stay beyond the 2024–25 season. The 33-year-old defender’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of this campaign.
The Dutch centre-back joins teammate Mohamed Salah—who recently signed a two-year extension—in committing his future to the club.
“I’m very happy and proud,” Van Dijk told Liverpoolfc.com. “To extend my journey here for another two years is amazing. It was always Liverpool—there was never any doubt. This is the place for me and my family.”
Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 for a then-world-record £75 million fee for a defender. Since then, he has played a key role in a golden era for the club, helping them win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
He is also close to captaining Liverpool to what could be their 20th English league title, with Arne Slot’s team currently 13 points clear at the top of the table with six games left.
