Watford terminate Samuel Kalu’s contract

Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu’s contract with Watford has been officially terminated following a mutual agreement between the player and the club.

The English Championship side confirmed the development in an official statement on Saturday, August 31.

Kalu, who joined Watford from French club Bordeaux in January, struggled to secure regular playing time during his stint at Vicarage Road. His time at the club was marred by recurring injuries and a loss of form, limiting his opportunities on the field.

During his Watford career, the 27-year-old made 13 appearances across all competitions, including four in the Premier League. Unfortunately, Kalu was unable to register any goals or assists during his time with the Hornets.

In search of more consistent playing time, Kalu was loaned to Lausanne-Sport in the Swiss Super League for the 2023/2024 campaign. During his loan spell, he made 21 appearances and contributed to five goals, showing glimpses of his potential.

Despite his efforts, Watford and Kalu reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract on August 30, making him a free agent. Kalu is now free to sign with a new club even after the close of the summer transfer window, providing him with an opportunity for a fresh start.
