Why Shettima cancelled his trip to Samoa

Vice-President Kashim Shettima who was assigned by Tinubu to represent the country at the upcoming meeting has canceled his plans to attend the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit in Samoa.

A statement from the presidency on Thursday night revealed that Shettima’s trip was canceled, citing that his plane was struck by a foreign object during a layover at JFK Airport in New York.

“The foreign object damaged the cockpit windscreen of the plane,” Bayo Onanuga said in a statement, who said a ministerial delegation will now represent Nigeria

“President Tinubu, acting promptly, has approved a ministerial delegation to represent Nigeria at the summit in the Samoa capital of Apia while the plane’s repair has commenced.
