Wike Revokes PDP’s Land For New Secretariat In Abuja

Wike revokes PDP?s new Secretariat land

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has approved the revocation of the land where the new National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is located, in the Central Business District of Abuja.

A letter confirming this decision was signed by the Director of Land Administration, Chijoke Nwankwoeze, on behalf of the Minister. Dated March 13, 2025, the letter was addressed to the PDP National Chairman and made public on March 18, 2025, in Abuja.

The letter, referencing MISC 81346 and titled “Notice of Revocation of Right of Occupancy in Respect of Plot Number 243 within Central Area (A00) District, Abuja,” stated in part:
“I have been directed to refer to the above Right of Occupancy granted to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Secretariat, and inform you that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in the exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, Cap L5, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, has revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over Plot No. 243 within Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja.
“The revocation is due to your continued failure to comply with the terms and conditions of the Right of Occupancy by not paying the annual ground rents due on the property for twenty (20) years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025.
“This is despite multiple publications by the FCT Administration since 2023 in national dailies and on electronic media urging all plot allottees in the Federal Capital Territory to settle outstanding bills and ground rents.
“The breaches by the Peoples Democratic Party, National Secretariat (MISC 81346) are contrary to the provisions of Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.
“I must further inform you that the subject property (Plot No. 243, Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja) has reverted to the Federal Capital Territory Administration, and the Administration will take immediate possession of it,” the letter concluded.

The multi-story Secretariat building, which has remained unfinished for 20 years, is located in a prime area of the city center. Construction of the 12-story building began in 2008, with an initial budget of N16 billion.

The PDP has yet to comment on this development.
