The World Bank has estimated that Lebanon will require around $11 billion for recovery and reconstruction after the devastating war between Israel and Hezbollah, which ended with a ceasefire in November 2024. The report, which assessed the damage and economic losses, outlined the significant toll the conflict took on the country. The war, which began on October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah launched unprovoked attacks on Israel, lasted until December 20, 2024.
The report indicated that southern Lebanon and Beirut’s suburbs were severely damaged, with thousands of homes, businesses, and public infrastructure destroyed. Despite the ceasefire halting hostilities, the aftermath of the war has exacerbated Lebanon’s already dire economic crisis, one of the worst in the world.
