On World Health Day 2025, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has shared a heartfelt message emphasizing the crucial need to invest in maternal and newborn health as a foundation for sustainable development.
The message, released on Monday by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, sheds light on the tragic reality that many women and newborns continue to lose their lives daily due to preventable complications during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.
Tinubu stated, “As we observe World Health Day 2025, with the theme ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,’ let us recognize that investing in maternal and newborn health is not only a moral duty but a fundamental pillar of sustainable development. Every day, far too many women and newborns lose their lives due to preventable complications. No mother should risk her life to bring a child into the world, and no newborn should be deprived of the opportunity to survive.”
She also extended her appreciation to health workers across Nigeria, acknowledging their dedication and sacrifices in the pursuit of a healthier world.
“On this World Health Day, let us all work towards creating a world where mothers can give birth safely, and children can live healthy lives to reach their full potential,” Tinubu concluded.
